Just like all things we learn in life, someone, or some life experience teaches us.  We are taught about all sorts of subjects in school.  Some of the knowledge we learn will be used every day throughout our lives and some we will never use again.

A specific or defined teaching is known as doctrine.  A doctrine is simply a particular teaching on any given subject.  It goes beyond thoughts and ideas, and opinions into a specific or formalized teaching on a subject.

Doctrine or teaching is around us every day.  Sales people go through training on the skill of selling. They become indoctrinated in sales.  The theory of evolution is a doctrine that is taught in our world every day. 

There are many different teachings or doctrines regarding worship.  Although most teachers would agree on some basic understanding of worship, many differ on it's importance, it's function in the body of Christ, it's forms and expressions.  With so many different teachings, it is easy for the essence of worship to be lost.

It is important for every Christian to understand what worship is, why it is, and how to engage in it.
